How do I enable WebDirect on my server?

WebDirect lets your users open FileMaker databases directly in a web browser with no FileMaker Pro installation required. It is included free on all dedicated hosting plans.

Step 1: Enable WebDirect on the server

  1. Log in to the FileMaker Server Admin Console
  2. Go to Web Publishing > Overview
  3. Make sure FileMaker WebDirect is set to On

Step 2: Enable WebDirect access for your database

Each database also needs to be individually enabled for WebDirect:

  1. In the Admin Console, click your database name
  2. Under Connections (or Clients depending on your FileMaker version), make sure FileMaker WebDirect is checked

Step 3: Share the URL with your users

The WebDirect URL for a database follows this format:

https://your-hostname.fmphost.com/fmi/webd/DatabaseName

Replace DatabaseName with the exact name of your hosted database file (it is case-sensitive).

After a server upgrade or migration

WebDirect may need to be re-enabled after a FileMaker Server version upgrade or server migration. If WebDirect stops working after a server change, the first place to check is the Web Publishing Overview page in the Admin Console — the toggle may have been reset to Off.
