How do backups work at FMPHost?

Every database hosted on FMPHost is backed up automatically every night — no setup required on your part.

What you get

  • 7 nightly backups — one per night, giving you a full week of recovery points
  • Off-server storage — backups are transferred off your server to a destination you choose, so a server problem never affects your backup copies
  • Included free — automatic backups are part of every hosting plan at no extra charge

Backup destinations

Choose where your backups are sent:

  • Dropbox
  • Google Drive
  • SFTP server
  • Nextcloud Office (FMPHost-hosted private cloud)

You can connect or change your destination at any time in your FMPHost dashboard under Backup Settings.

How the backup process works

Each night, FileMaker Server creates a consistent clone of your live database file, archives it, and our system transfers the archive to your destination. FileMaker Server stays online during this process — there is no downtime window.

Infrastructure-level snapshots

In addition to database-level backups, your server also benefits from VM-level snapshots at the infrastructure layer, providing an independent recovery option for hardware-level failures.
