How do I add a custom SSL certificate to my server?

Every FMPHost server is already secured with HTTPS using a free *.fmphost.com SSL certificate — you do not need to do anything for basic SSL coverage.

If you want to use your own domain name (for example, filemaker.yourcompany.com) and have a proper SSL certificate for that domain, here is how it works.

Step 1: Point your domain to your server

Before installing a custom certificate, your domain needs to be pointed at your server. See our article on using a custom domain for the DNS steps.

Step 2: Choose your certificate type

  • Standard SSL — $49/year: Covers one specific hostname (e.g., filemaker.yourcompany.com)
  • Wildcard SSL — $199/year: Covers all subdomains (e.g., *.yourcompany.com) — best if you use multiple subdomains
  • EV (Extended Validation) SSL — $299/year: Displays your organization name in the browser's address bar — common for customer-facing portals that require visible trust indicators

Step 3: Purchase and install

Open a support ticket with the certificate type you want and the domain name you need it for. We handle issuance and installation. You will need to complete a domain validation step — usually clicking a link sent to your domain's admin email address.

After a server migration

Custom SSL settings may need to be re-applied after a server migration. If your SSL certificate stops working after a server change, open a support ticket and we will re-install it promptly.
