Connecting to a database hosted on FMPHost from FileMaker Pro takes just a few steps.
Steps
- Open FileMaker Pro on your computer
- From the File menu, choose Open Remote (or Hosts in newer versions)
- Enter your server hostname in the host field:
your-hostname.fmphost.com - Your available databases will appear in the list — select the one you want to open
- Enter your FileMaker database credentials when prompted
You can also type a direct network path: fmnet:/your-hostname.fmphost.com/DatabaseName
Troubleshooting connection issues
- "Host not found" — double-check the hostname spelling in your welcome email
- Database not in list — confirm the database is open and hosted in the Admin Console
- Login fails — verify you are using your database credentials (not your FMPHost account password)
Experiencing slow performance?
FileMaker is sensitive to network latency. If your users are located far from your server's data center, consider our FileMaker Pro RemoteApp service, which runs FileMaker Pro directly in the data center — eliminating the distance penalty entirely.
